suggest changing the map after a year or two.
the current map is still too new (and sufficiently good) to be replaced.

by which you mean, ugto always had more systems in sag than everyone else, icc and kluth complained about either having just 1 system or their nearest neighbor having direct access to them, depending on which day of the week it was.
or about how often fighting would setting in around fargo rock.
or about how despite variety of where you could attack and defend, that rarely every happened..

Indeed the map wasn't perfect and would rather its layout slightly altered. But at least it had SOME option for variety unlike the currently linear map we have now.

There's still options for variety. Simple fact is most people don't CARE about variety, or capping planets, or tactics, or anything else, and just want to slug it out in the nearest opportune system. No matter what the map looks like it will come down to a majority of the action happening in one system.
The only thing this current map lacks is Pirates.

At first I also thought the map was wrong.
But when playing it, I discovered that is good.
The problem is not on the map.
I think that is in us that we are not willing to accept the changes.
The changes always generate frustration until one learn how to play in this situation.
Tactics need to be improved.
We must invent new strategies.
Each faction has its advantages and disadvantages.
Obviously we are all going to complain about our weaknesses and exaggerate the benefits of the other side.
The different time zones also causes problems.
When there are many players of one faction at the same time, take advantage.
For example, PSI has 2 or 3 good players like Dreamer or Xpander in the same country and at the Same time in team, this is an advantage. However this is the game.
Players from Europa or America has in some cases 10 hours apart. In this case is practicaly impossible, play at the same time.
In my case when i can play, many players go to sleep and others go to dinner.
Is very difficult planning strategies.
Is high priority recovery of lost players, we need many many player in the game for compensate for time differences and make it more even playable.
Options, nothing new, sorry.
-- a massive call when it launches the 1.674 version.
-- a individual call for those players that each of us knows.
-- some gift for returning to play. Maybe not fair to those who play every day, but if necessary for the future of the game, have to accept it.

All who know me, know my love for Wh.
So maybe my opinion is not impartial.
But I think the Wh., makes the unpredictability of the game.
If you could not be used between systems, no point in having it.
The fun is to attack anywhere, do the unexpected.
If play is just sitting on the gate, fortify and wait, I would not be in this game.
It would be very boring.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In fact, I propose: ban the JD in the stations, only allowing them with WH.
in this way, the game will be amazing.
Stations attacking from differents fronts.
All ships running in several frontlines.
Wow will be crazy and fun [ This Message was edited by: P2. on 2012-08-15 15:57 ]

i agree with P2 the more players we have on at once makes the game interesting and alows for unpreditcable tactics. yea we mostly fight at gates and the same planets just bc its easier to do. if we would go the extra mile we can take battles to home systems and make things more interesting. i for 1 like the current map just need more willing people to try some thing new.

P2 is right, however there really are bad things about the map.
When i played some years ago it was like Gaifens and Pirates, Gaifens and Pirates everywhere, and it made the game cool. also i remember having the systems invaded more deeply, like UGTO got wiped to half of Cincinatti before...
Now we're stuck with:
A MI planet that is unconquerable, takes aid from the devs when i bomb/raze it(MI has no engineers UMAD) right in the middle of the combat zone. It would be cool if MI visited that zone more, but having a UNCONQUERABLE planet there...
No more Gaifens (SERIOUSLY WHERE ARE THEM?)
Pirates on home system only
a Central System that appears to cycle ownership and center most of the fights
An endless stalemate

There are always other tactical routes, like setting up plat chains to attack other systems directly. You just need to think a little less linearly yourself.

the problem that is being noticed more and more is that there is no player base to support assaults like that to the fullest.
Im thinking that untill the player base is larger we need a smaller map. The current feels just too big for the amount of players we have

for 3 players, 1 on each faction, the sagittarius zone is big
for 15 players, 5 on each faction, the sagittarius zone fits the needs
for 30 players, 10 on each faction, the sagittarius zone is kinda small
for 498 players (i wish), 166 on each faction, the sagittarius zone is small. the other zones are then used.
its a matter of perspective - the time of day and how much personal space do you want.
you play during the quiet hours? map looks big (and empty)
you play during the rush hours? map looks ok (some action is happening)
you play during happy hours? map might appear small (small war is happening)
you play during happy hours of DarkSpace 2 years from now? you'll feel the map is puny (full scale blown-out-of-virtual proportion war will be going on)
