Are devs and admins prepared for a sudden popularity boost in darkspace? Say this game got famous from a reddit post, the servers would probably crash, how long would it take to switch to better servers?

It would require money..... a lot of money if you want a huge servers that can support a huge number of players. Maybe if those new people buy ehs, upgrades could be made, but till then I dont think a server upgrade is in the works as they just swapped over to new servers.

We're on some of the best servers you can get. The DarkSpace server is simply an executable that we run and assign to a core on the server. They use very little memory (Hydra maybe has 20% memory usage with all servers running), but do require significant processing power, which is why we lock them all to an individual core.

If it got stupidly popular our server solution allows us to add additional cores so we can open up more instances (more scenarios/duplicate MV). The limiting factor is really the simulation on the server node that's in use and will not affect any of the other nodes (a massive fight in Sag will not affect any of the others), so you can all pile in to different parts of the MV.

The servers crashing also has nothing to do with how many people are on it, and has been fixed in beta. We're expecting a release this weekend if all goes to plan.

We recently moved the backend over to Linux, which is why we've had some issues with the servers. The issue that's causing the main thread to stall in release is fixed in beta though.

I strongly agree with Mylith.

I have been playing for a little while now, and the whole time have been keeping track of notes re playability, the game as a whole, the community etc.

I also have a lot of experiance in marketting and sales, I agree wholeheartedly that there is a risk of this game becoming popular - fast.

I use the word risk quite aptly -- you can only meet players / customers once. compared to other mmo's in the same sort of genre as this - DS has a few bits missing. DS also has alot of stuff others simply dont and can't have - this game is fundementaly great fun to play, often!

It's eaten up my life since i found it - Check the server logs!!

Before i start banging on in the wrong place, i'll put together my thoughts and ideas and look for the right place in the forum....
