I should probably detail what I do to protect myself from any and all forms of database breaches, yet keep it easy to remember.

Give your email account its own password, seperate from everything else.

Any games you register for, tack on an abbreviation at the end. So if your password is "dogs5", it would be "dogs5ds" for DarkSpace, or "dogs5wow" for World of Warcraft. This way you can remember the same password easily, but it's different for each account so you never have to worry. If it gets hacked, tack a number on the end of the number, "dogs5ds" becomes "dogs51ds".

Whenever you sign up to a community website or forum thats associated with that game tack an underscore or percentage sign at the front or end of the password, so "dogs5ds" becomes "%dogs5ds_". Fan sites are the #1 cause of passwords being stolen, so the extra character security is important.

This ensures that you can remember your password easily for each site, but if you experience a breach, only that website or game is breached.

It's good practice to change the word and number every year, so 2011 may have been "dogs5", for 2012 it may be "cats9". Email it to yourself (don't mention password, just a brief "2011 dogs5") or write it down somewhere you won't forget.

I've used this for years and it gives me peace of mind to know that no matter how hard they try, they can only use that password for that game or website, and nothing else will be at risk.

I did that once. I couldn't remember them all.
So unfortunately I use mostly the same for all.

I already use completely different passwords everywhere I go like the paranoid freak I am. F'rinstance, my password here was "solarsystem", at another place, it's "asphyxiation", etc. I use different usernames occasionally as well for maximum annoying.
