CMD prompt ipconfig /all and check if DHCP Enabled says yes = dynamic
Most ISP's charge extra for a static ip.

Okay, so it turns out my IP IS dynamic. It just doesn't seem to be letting me connect to GameCQ. I checked my network details, and it says DHCP is enabled, I was looking at the wrong thing. I don't know what else could cause me to not connect to the GameCQ server.
EDIT: Okay, there we go. Finally got it to work. It was an updater issue the entire time. It kept either failing to update or would slow down immensely for no reason at a certain point. It finally successfully updated. [ This Message was edited by: Necrolance on 2012-09-27 14:48 ]

Can confirm this, but can only offer a weak solution.
Keep trying
It will take a while, but 'eventually' it will connect.
The gcql update or connection appears to be slow/hanging/freezing and will time out. so Keep trying.
I understand this is annoying but until we find out the why that it is, that is the only solution i can provide.
A new installer is currently in distribution, i do not know if with this one the problem is fixed, i will check this later on the day. If so i will let you all know.
E.

I decided to install DS on my laptop, after downloading the client I was having same problems like people here (new install) game did not start, unable to connect. I noticed that it was the older version when running setup of DarkSpace 1.673 (83MB)
What worked for me was to re-download DarkSpace 1.691 (94MB) from: *Palestar Mirror* 09/27/2012 5842 Faustus. This time after fresh install all worked well and I was able to connect instantly.

I've tried installing the palestar mirror and I can get into the lobby but every time I try to actually get into a server it starts up the loading screen then does nothing. No progress on the loading bar at the bottom. Is my computer just that crappy or is something else going on?

Likely. Can you go into Darkspace Setup and disable shaders and try again?

I just tried that, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I also tried going into the tutorial. At first it seems to load just fine then freezes in a few seconds as it zooms towards the planet. This is at the lowest possible graphics settings by the way.

Can you post your Client.log located in the GameCQ/.Cache/DarkSpace directory?

I don't have a Client.log file that I can find, the closest I could get was a Client text file containing the above info.
EDIT: Just to see what would happen, when I fired up the tutorial I managed to mash the play button fast enough to get into the next screen where you'd select your ship but it froze a second later. [ This Message was edited by: Space Pope on 2012-09-30 18:15 ]

Your graphics card hardware or software doesn't support simple DirectX texture compression.
You need to update your graphics card's drivers and try again. Wouldn't hurt to update DirectX either.
Hitting play fast enough won't make a difference. [ This Message was edited by: Pantheon on 2012-09-30 18:26 ]
