I've updated to the latest driver and I have the latest DirectX version and it's still giving me the same problem with the same error report in the Client log.
09/30/12 23:00:43 | ERRO | ImageCodecDXT | Direct Draw Error (0x8876086c): D3DERR_INVALIDCALL
If it helps I'm running windows 7 home premium with an Intel® Processor Graphics 3000.
Seems to me like I might be screwed until I get a better computer huh?

Yeah I ran the driver update utility on my computer, downloaded and installed the latest version, still no improvement.
Edit: This is both frustrating and confusing, since I've had no trouble running other games even before I updated my driver. [ This Message was edited by: Space Pope on 2012-10-01 01:04 ]

when you installed direct x did you make sure to install direct x 9c? link below.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=23471
you could also try reinstalling the game from a different download link and seeing if this helps as well.

That download just gave my a bunch of files and no option to install them anywhere, instead it's prompting me to find a place to put the extracted files.
So I've hunted down somewhere else to download DirectX9.0c, I'm just waiting on it to finish I'll give an update once it's done.

Oh no worries mate, I really appreciate your help. I loved this game back in the day, good times man.
Anyway first try didn't do anything I'm trying a different download from a different site.
Edit: Second site didn't work. Looks like I don't get to play . Also I don't know if this helps but my comp is currently running DirectX 11

Demodi : He's connecting locally to the Tutorial, which is why it's a local address. The issue here is his client is locking up, and the error stack points to an issue with the rendering. Please be careful when offering advice to users if you don't know what the problem is.
After looking through the engine code and error outs, it looks like you're requesting your hardware perform something it cannot. This could be DirectX Surface Compression, an unsupported colour depth, fullscreen issues, etc.
Restarting your computer (if you haven't tried) may resolve the problem, you could also try running in windowed mode (DarkSpace Setup > Windowed from the resolution list).
The 0x8876086c error output is basically DirectX's way of saying "I can't do this with the hardware I'm given".

Also try dropping all your settings in Dark space setup. Could it be shaders or something like that causing the problem? Just a thought.

Could it be the "all got a new password" thing that some people have problems with?
when i came back to this game i was confused too untill i got to the forums as a guest to find out DS was "hacked".
then going to my e-mail the new password was in the spam folder.

Well, I tried dropping all the graphics options to their absolute minimums, ran it in windowed mode and dropped the resolution to the lowest value, still nothing. I also restarted my computer.
Seems like I just can't run Darkspace at the moment with my computer. I guess I'm going to have to wait a few years until I get a new one, unless there's something I haven't tried yet.

Check the Intel driver panel too and see if there are any options you should have enabled/disabled.

Just finished taking a look at that a still nothing. Is there anyway I could modify the textures on a local level that are causing the problem? or would that cause more issues?
I'm not that great with computers as you can see I'm just throwing ideas out there.
EDIT:I poked around in the directX diagnostic help section and found where to dowload DirectX 9 on the microsoft site but it didn't do anything and then told me that it didn't install properly after download then gave me a prompt to use recommended settings. I clicked that then it gave an error message and told me to look at the DirectX log (similar to the client log) and it said this:

Am I missing a plug-in or something? Any idea where to get it?
EDIT2: Heres the error log from the DxError log file:

the first log is old, july. the plug in errors i donno what could have caused them then but appearently they havent happened since..
it does seem to hint that a previous update havent finished properly, but it could as well have been fixed in a reboot after that...? im not sure. the prompt ur getting is prolly a versions check where they ask u: the new version isnt better then old version do u still wish to update direct x? can u tell what the exact message is after u run direct x update file? interesting indeed:)
PS: okay pantz i wont tell ppl that anymore:) [ This Message was edited by: -domedi- on 2012-10-01 14:33 ]
