Sounds OK. As long as your system or screen didn't blow up in your face....

I apologize for the negativity. In all fariness I've posted some "off" stuff over the years. It's just part of the journey.

Negativity? What are you talking about? This is where we get the comedic gold for the random quotes thread...
Of course, making DS into a horrible parody of all other sci fi genres might actually be the way to revitalize DS...

Indeed, I'd only be a Vice Admiral had this been Star Trek. But I get more out of STO than Darkspace any day.

So much negative feedback and attacks on the op and I thought I was the troll here lol.
How about this.
Ignorance, your idea tho founded on a good idea and intention is based on anouther universe that doesnt work well in darkspace. Reason is Bleed through damage on shields is normally a system in a game. When a majority of things in game are using shields. Thus needing some sort of bleed through becuse they would be invincible while shielded.
If you think about all the shield types in sci fi. Your shield is one of these. Darkspace decided to go with barrier type shield. That is practicly invincible as long as it has the shield strength and energy to maintain. Star Trek as you mention uses a more realistic(realistic in a sci fi fantantasy sort of way lol) aproach. If a shield were possible its unlikely to block everything and mor elikely to block a percentage of incoming damage. Thus you have Bleed Through.
Now some of the retarded people in this thread could have simply changed your idea into a possible one. Bleedthrough being used in a type of advanced shield. With high benfits like high regen or high shield capacity at the expense of this bleed through.
Yes I of all people will show you all the light in how to positivly respond to an idea.

well it may or may not be a good idea but it does have merit in a game sense and a business sense. The one thing ds can say is that its unique. Thats why its still here(amazingly after thirteen years. However what is the maximum amount of people that has been on at any time ever? Perhaps most of them are AAA titles and in that sense you would be correct. Darkspace has no ability to compare or compete with a AAA title. Its not their fault tho Darkspace is an indi game. There is nothing wrong with indi games. Normally the best games from from indi developers.
Now on to revitalizing Darkspace. I hate to be the bad guy here to say this but there may be renewals andrevitalizations to darkspace through additional content new patches etc. At this stage in development over a decade after release. The only real way to revitalize darkspace is to create a brand new darkspace. Its entirely up to Faustus whether he and staff have both the income to support it and the man power to develop it.
Before one of the staff or other forums trolls decide to attack me on any of those points. Its not an attack on Darkspace just one persons perceptions of what is. Regardless of how its candy coated or made to look. Darkspace is still a game over a decade old. At some point in the future thre will be three decisions regardless if anyone admits it ot not.
these decisions are
option 1 create a brand new Darkspace
option 2 update it forever. but you will run into limitations on what you can do and what your able to do. Either becuse of engine limitations, money or manpower.
option 3 Shut it down. This is an option that scares everyone but its always there. That everyone fears. However as with life all things come to an end.
Perhaps the future is somethign the staff can comment on or if its even possible. Will Darkspace still be running ten years from now. Then Darkspace will be over twenty years old. I think we would all like to see twenty year in game anniversaries but how realistic is that? Givin the a typical lifespan of your average game. These are all question we all have but noone knows.
ok im clearly babbling now perhaps its the troll in me or the alcohol. I however will leave it at that for now. Now to see if this post will be deleted or start a interesting thoughtful conversation on the future of darkspace.

Tried STO.
The ship combat was not too bad. But the maps are instanced, it's not like DS' sandbox MV enviroment, which means that I don't have true freedom to move around. I want that freedom. So minus one here.
The ground combat was a total dud. Being an FPS player, and a picky one at that, I totally hated it. Minus another one here.
After playing 4 missions, I uninstalled the game.

+1
If I wanna play a good space combat game, I play this amazing game. If I want to play an FPS game, I play Battlefield 3 or Planetside 2. STO just got really boring really quick and didn't really draw me in like this game or PS2. [ This Message was edited by: Fatal Brutality *COM* on 2013-01-24 00:55 ]

i played STO for 1-2 months, danced for 2 mins, then deleted it.
playing it is almost like reading a book.
you dont read it twice.
huge filesize, overcomplicated ship and map system, and game content that is nearly non-replayable. -1 × 3 = -3/5

Doesn't really have much impact on or add anything to the game, and for some substantial coding trouble too. Not worth it, IMO.

What a helpful and pleasant community (not), I'm sure you can see why your playerbase is so empty and lifeless now. [ This Message was edited by: White-Knight on 2013-01-25 07:33 ]
