I'd rather see something like cosmetic decals added, or displaying a fleet icon on ships.

Fleet icons/decals are actually more doable.

These decals are similar to the damage textures added to the ship. This of course would be more applicable to human ships, as I don't know how the heck to put a fleet logo on a Kluth ship without it being cheesy. Guess that's more incentive to join a human faction huh?

In addition to that, things like Ship names (again for human ships), and even your player ID as a faux-ship registration number can also be decal'ed onto the ship... with limited character length of course.

The problem is... who's gonna make the code changes and do up the textures?

I like this idea, even to the point of agreeing with Kenny Naboo that individuality (a trait perhaps alien to the K'Luth) expresed in player designed K'Luth Fleet icons would seem like something the 'hive mind' and the Queen in particular would strictly disapprove of, K'Luth could have some form of uniform specially staff-designed Fleet icons and the human factions, ship names/badges

I picture the infinite G ship movements making the overall experience very unpleasant.
It might look good if ships had rotational inertia and we all moved in 3D, but we don't, and probably never will.
