the thing is the EAD still does more damage per hit, AD just has more staying power.

What Borg said.
In durability, they're pretty evenly matched if the pilots know how to turn the ship and/or rotate shields. The EAD was defeated because long after it had run out of energy, the AD was still firing on it.
