I personally think that the visibilty range should be a bit over what the range of the weapon is.

Since railguns go as far as 1200, they should render out to about 1500.
If they render out to only 500-1000 or whatever you set it on, they will vanish before they hit their target.

1000 is all I'm prepared to go up to for performance reasons, sorry. That's still a 5-10 fold increase on what it was before in most cases.

Would it be difficult to have a config setting?
Something like a multiplier... Would default as 1, but users could change it.

Someone with performance issues could lower it, but if it wasn't problematic, it could be raised.

Even better would be if the LOD was based on how much was going on.
In a little skirmish of a few people, render distances could be huge, but in a large battle, would turn down a bit.

No, there's no need.

Well, can you at least increase the render distance of impact effects substantially so those show up? ^_^

There's a reason ion cannons are so awesome at blind-fire... Everyone can see where they explode.
I sometimes pull a strike cruiser for the sole purpose of blind firing.

Not sure about you, but I can see all three core weapons equally.

Maybe you should re-read the OP. We are speaking of cannons, not core weapons

Yeah, all 3 core weapons are great for blind fire.
Torpedoes can be as well, but are a bit short ranged.
Even lasers can, but it's tricky to see the little impact flicker.
Cannons are hard to see unless you're really close.
