i have seen my fair share of players go to the fleet page on the website and expect to find a "Apply to Fleet" button and i think its about time we add that to the game

When you are looking at a fleet page there is a "join fleet" button at the top right of their fleet page.
or...
You can go to the lobby and type in..... /clan list ...... then hit enter. There will be listed all of the fleets ID numbers. Find the fleet you want to join and type in...... /clan join @(their ID number) .........
Either way you do it you will be added to their fleet list and a fleet admin will have to then accept you. It is not an automatic thing.

As a note of promotion I find FTL, ML, MLP, AoD and PB are the most active fleets. D is also coming up on the list.

I believe I know what is going on here..
I assume you don't even see a 'Join Fleet' button on the top right on fleet pages at all?
This is most likely due to you not having a registered email account with the game. It will also prevent you from using /clan commands to join. (Which I assume is because of the new fleet perks for sending emails.)

Pirate and MI fleets don't have "Join fleet" button dude.

I gave you all a plug along with FTL, AoD, PB, D, and MLP. Now hush up we are getting away from the point of this thread which is a request for a fleet join button on the homepage as near as I can tell.

for sake of argument, lets assume there is an APPLY TO FLEET button on the fleets page.
 
but what does it do?
option A: click on the button and select a fleet to apply to.
but wait, that already happens, except right now you first select a fleet and then click on a JOIN FLEET button. this option isnt required.
option B: click on the button to auto-apply to a fleet.
...but which fleet?
shortening the process to a single step is not possible. this option isnt right either.
option C: click on the button to auto-apply to all fleets.
yay, now you will become fleeted in the shortest time possible.
obvious problems - you didnt get recruited by your favourite faction's fleets
- you dont know if a certain fleet you want to enter is accepting recruits
- you get recruited by an inactive fleet (not too bad)
C failed too.
option D: click on the button to apply to a suitable fleet based on your preferences and your profile statistics as calculated by the DS server.
w00t, the server will now lead your self to a fleet that suits you. win for the fleet, win for the player.
except, that kind of technology does not exist yet. trying to make such technology would only result in disaster.
not to mention developer headache.
nopenopenopenope, this button fails the thought experiment test.
why would we even want it? and what would it do?

My advice for freshies: Don't bother joining a fleet if you dont know how to... it just means you're not ready yet. Joining a fleet also means you are stuck with one choice of fraction to play with either Kluth, ICC or UGTO. Play all 3 fractions, discover your favourite and then look for a fleet.
