I had another idea, and I thought I would share it so that everyone can tell me they don't like it again.

A phase drive, instantly phases a single ship (not the ship with the gadget) out of real space for a set time. For the duration of the effect the ship operates as though it is cloaked and cannot be detected and the effect cannot be ended early. So basically the ship under the effect can move and that's about it, if you want (and game mechanics allow) you could make it so that the ship ignores damage and doesn't impede the flight of projectiles.

You could use it on a friendly ship to allow them to escape, or move in, or you could use it on an enemy to take them out of the combat equation for a set time, but you never know where they will be when the effect ends. The gadget would be swappable with a WH generator.

As things stand with a little skill you can do almost the same thing with a regular WH generator but I thought that this would be more interesting.

It's like a cloaking device, but even betterer, since you can't even be damaged by random gunfire.

Bearing in mind that I already hate the cloaking device because it laughs in the face of game balance, I'm going to say no to this since it'll either last for such a short period of time to be useless, or long enough that it's hideously overpowered.

The more political answer is that the game balance is already precarious as is, best not to introduce more highly volatile elements to it.
