The kamikaze from stations or dreads has a extremely simple solution: disable explosion. self-destructed or killed doesn't give any rewards.
Will it satisfy any concern?
Too many long discussions...

I logged onto GCQL today and I had 14650 pres (rounded to an easy number), according to Profile.
When I went to the game, I went to 14510 pres.
How is it possible that I dropped to a lower count of pres?
I start to dislike this game this way.

Must have misread it, that or an edge-case scenario where your profile was pushed and then a stat update was pushed after you logged off (for example, being killed after logging). The game always re-calculates upon logging in-game to account for this sort of thing.
You can dislike this game anyway you like, but the prestige system is fine as is (if anything, prestige gain is a tad high). People are used to playing the likes of Call of Duty and gaining experience or w/e you have at an ungodly rate.
This is how we do things, and considering the fact that new players come and rank up ridiculously fast all the time, I think the prestige loss rate is just fine. [ This Message was edited by: Pantheon on 2014-01-03 16:30 ]

You don't even need to self destruct. Just jump in a ship repeatedly, spam spacebar, die. Repeat. It would be by far the most effective way to play, and it was when prestige loss was even lower.
I don't see why people have so much trouble with prestige, all you have to do is not die. Only you can put yourself in a situation where you're going to lose a very large chunk of prestige at once. Its a team based game. Yes that means you might actually have to socialize, and work together to achieve goals. Because the side that does will win.
That just brings us to a completely different issue of player numbers balance, something that there is absolutely no control over. Don't like numbers being skewed? Change factions yourself to even it out, I do it all the time.
But the truth is, people just like winning more than they like fairness. Even if there was a way to balance numbers, there would be complaints about that too. Can't make everyone happy.

The only problem with this game is lack of players. I like the pres loss, it weeds out the kids and makes playing a challenge. One of my fav games Astonia 3 had a similar system. If you died anywhere in game, you had 30 minutes real time to make it back to your body or you lost everything. The game required you to make several alts to create good equipment for just one alt. These items were priceless. You would have to find a high level player to escort you to your body. This really made you think before you ventured too far into a high level area. The same goes here. No more flying around in the largest ship you can get into with no worries. Just like in real life every decision you make has repercussions...

i'd like to add here, that the purpose of getting higher ranks is not to unlock better ships, but to unlock ships with variations.
by the time players reach commander or captain, their choice of ships allows them to play any and every role in the game with efficiency.
DarkSpace prides itself on having the most equal ships you can have in a game. the mechanics and layouts have been made to make scouts as useful as dreadnoughts. so, dont worry if one day you lose pres or even get demoted, as its highly unlikely for anyone to get demoted to commander or below. even then, you will have a nice variety of tools to play the game with

There is a problem with pres loss. I have been back and playing for about a month, yet in that time I am still at least 2% down from when I came back. I think hey my pres is growing, then wham, I lose 1 dread and I am lose .2% of the pres I made.....
