I believe you can turn off your gadget list if you want to select them, though it would be nice to not have to.

Just a thought.

Perhaps each ship destroyer and above should automatically have one permanent infantry unit stationed about as sentries?

Of course, if we go with the idea of having separate spaces for friendly, enemy inf, and cargo, that would just be tits.
