Have been having some of the problems that others describe, lagging, difficulty loggin in etc and someone suggested checking latency.

Logged in today where my Halberd was docked and found latency hovering round 250ms - 200ms. waited whilst jd charged - jumped to gate, waited for it to charge and latency hovering around the 217ms

Went into new server and latency through the roof - started at 4k - wasd then fluctuating from 15000 ( ish) to about 2000

After 2-3 mins it dropped and stabilied around 150 to 200 - occasionally around 120.

ICC turned up and latency then went from between 4000 and 21000- the ydissapreaed and latency drops to low jundreds

The symptoms i saw were typical of what ofetn happens when logging to a new server, i.e. big delay, lagging etc. ships sliding around

SO

Is this problem at my end - if so why was my latency fine apart from just after getting into a server and when enemy around and what can i do about it?

Or is it a game issue?

It's the randomness of it that gets me - if wa stable at least i know!!

Do you have multi-core enabled in the settings?

It's an experimental feature, if you do, disable it.

If not, then it's an issue on your end. Nothing on the backend has been changed for a year+.

hoping this might help

about 2 years ago, i used to have nearly the same problem on my old machine. latency would be low when i was alone and go through the roof when other ships would approach and shoot around.

i moved to a new machine, whose most different aspect is that it has 512 mb of video memory (old computer had 48/64 mb). and voila, lag reduced.

so, if your computer has low video/GPU memory, i'd recommend upgrading it.

so multicore is not enabled.

interesting re graphics. is a fairly new machine (october) but not that high end. Could understand it being that if it was linked to combat but in other cases i get nothing.

if it was a constant issue i could understand something like line noise or pc hardware but it jumps arouind a lot

If you have a chance to test playing on another machine on the same network, this way you could determine if it's hardware or network and work forward from there.
