1 idea: a cloak nulifier that works out to 500 gu, it totally dis-rupts the conditions required to cloak sucessfully. medium to high energy useage.
2nd idea: making the 'ping' effect automatic every 5 to 15 secs so that it acts more like a wet-navy sonar , you don't see many ppl in the us navy turning the sonar on and off manually in the middle of a live fire execise to detect a submerged sub.......isn't that what we're looking for ???? i know i am..........

Cloak nullifier device = too easy.
Just turn it on and cloak drops? Meh. Nonsensical.
I would rather have special beacons which either
- drops cloak for 5 secs when it attaches to a ship, or
- marks a cloaked ship by becoming a targetable object
The 2nd idea is not too bad, but is borne out of laziness. I'd rather have a 2nd ECCM device which doesn't stay on, but merely ping once when activated and then goes into a recharge cycle.
But, why don't we all just test Beta first before making a judgment call, huh?

Common sense has no place on these forums. Get out.

Went into beta for a short while to test cloak in and out of combat.
I couldn't see a combat timer anywhere on the screen. Is it supposed to be like that?
Next, flying a siphon, I can see that the cloak energy drain has been improved. Now a siph can cloak without being drained standing still. I couldn't really tell if the drain was more in combat than out of combat because there wasn't anybody else around I could test with.
Can you clarify again what is in or out of combat? Do i have to do damage with my weapons to trigger the timer, or will merely firing my weapons set if off?
Also I feel that the damage done to the cloaking device is a bit too fast. Instead of X number of seconds a Kluth ship gets to escape, it was literally abt 2 to 3 seconds before the device went under 50% and my sig ran up.
Device rep rate was appreciably slow. So that's good. But the damage is a bit too high.

To count as being in combat you have to take damage or cause damage, just firing won't do it. At least that's how it worked last time I was in beta.

Last time I looked there was a timer in the top right that either said "you are out of combat" or "leaving combat in X seconds."

Faustus removed the timer. There is now a white ring that indicates when you are out of combat (dealing and taking no damage for 30 seconds).

That explains it... why the energy drop wasn't noticeable and why there was no timer. Hmm. Guess I have to find some ppl or AI to shoot at the next time I'm in.
But pls look at the cloak device damage rate again. I find it a tad too high. It jumped from 100 to under 50 in about 3 secs. Then it was fluctuating wildly after that.
Dunno if that was buggy, or meant to be.

How about this? Let's just not do this, this way. Find another way to make it more balanced.
This seems like it's going to cause more problems than solve any problem. I can already hear the whining from both sides about how bad this thing's going to be. It already seems like Hell to balance out, I know some people are already planning on complaining about it. Lol, it's just not worth it. But that's my opinion of course.
All I wish for is that the game is a bit more balanced, not too much more balanced, just a little would do.

I just love how (Storyline oriented of course) Our respective factions seem to be getting more technologically inferior each patch, amuses me is all...

Look at the kluth whining about the energy cost,
Your a hit and run faction, not hit and lurk
You just lost the huge vulnerability called ping
put on ECM as a huge team and see what the energy use is like.

Most Kluth would rather have ping, but unlimited cloak usage over complete invisibility at an energy cost.
But I've gone into Beta several times recently and have found the energy cost to be acceptable after the OOC revisions were made. It's all a matter of actually TESTING it in beta first before making assumptions. That's why testing and providing feedback is important.
Your opinions won't matter if u didn't even try it out.
Oh, and did I mention that beta testing also gives you the opportunity to adapt to and develop new tactics for the changes before it goes live; thereby giving you an advantage when it finally does?

Thats what FTL uses beta for.
Feedback to the devs is just the biproduct of our training.
Though i must admit an unwillingness to get into beta this time around.

So that would mean that you have not actually really tested the new shields but are disagreeing with it?
LOL

What about a detector that maybe can give you an idea that thare are luth close to you like a bar or something that fills up the closer a luth is, but then again this might nullifie the effect of suprise attacks to much.
just throwing ideas onto the table.
