What about a detector that maybe can give you an idea that thare are luth close to you like a bar or something that fills up the closer a luth is, but then again this might nullifie the effect of suprise attacks to much.
just throwing ideas onto the table.

Yeah. You'll know once a Kluth decloaks and puts on his fireworks show.

i like that idea ken..
A cloaked warning bar that pops up when a cloaked ship is in the area of 1000gu of the planet your orbiting or 750gu around a **sensor plat..
you still don't know where it is, but you know there is something there....
the 1000gu radius field can be the same field used on dictor.
**gotta make sensor plats useful for something again..

Collision detection is funny huh? amazing how it can detect a tiny pcannon projectile hitting you, but a whole planet? nothing is there!

That was sarcasm.
You'll a know a Kluth is there alright, once he decloaks and opens up on you.

So um...if I'm right in saying, Cloaks are now 100% cloaking (nothing can detect them) but even if you are stationary with ECM on, you still lose energy so eventually you will lose your ability to stealth for sometime until you regenerate.
if thats right, then;
1) Why would you want/need a way to further detect them. Its not like the K'luth can launch a full salvo off with this new cloaking system (by the time the ship gets to the target, in position + ready to fire the majority of the energy will be depleted, if not already so).
I dunno if it was tweaked (read 1/6 pages .___.) but from page 1, energy drops rapidly when cloaked, even when stationary. So what is the issue if in about 3 minutes a Siphon will take internal damage, or have to decloak - most likely in the middle of a fleet.
Just seems silly to me is all.
2) I'd rather just have a bit of a boost to the ECCM rather than this nonsense. Or at least give more reactors + energy capacity to the K'Luth ships.
What I liked about the K'luth was you had to use tactics, planning and patience to play well as a K'luth, couldnt just charge right into a hostile force and hope for the best - you'd usually end up dead.
But now, with the limited time on cloaking, patience is literally eliminated from the equation, you have a lot less time to get into position, you cant be sneaky (realistically) because you cant afford the energy cost of going from Gate to hostile force etc.
Not to mention, with the ability to be completely invisible/invulnerable for a few minutes in the middle of a hostile force. just takes the fun away. Sure they can predict where you are moving, but it wont be hard to fly out the way etc.
_____________
Dunno if its just me, or because I have yet to try this out, but from what I've read on first page, I'm not gonna like it. Like I said, I liked having to plan my attack, wait for the right moment and ensure that there was no suspicion on me before I got there (pinging + random firing). Now it sounds like you have to rush in there, decloak, fire a salvo or so, then fly off as fast as you can before cloak fails.
Oh I also forgot to mention when your waiting for the other couple of K'luth to get into position it'd drain energy too.
I'll try it out, but like I said...I dont think I'll enjoy it and would rather it revert back to what it was, with having ECM either boosted and made the 'official' feature rather than a bug become feature etc.
EDIT: my bad for necropost, thought it was more active as was listed on the recent dev blog stuff on the side :/ [ This Message was edited by: Comet on 2012-05-06 17:32 ]

Most of this info was from when it was in development - no ship loses energy sitting still.

Oh I see. Do you gain energy when stationary still, or is it at a 1:1 (gain:lose) ratio?

you can be cloaked and movieng around 9 gu in a dread and still keep energy from droping and after 3 alphas watch the power and make sure you have enough to cloak as the power recharge rate is slow.

alphas? What ya mean? >.>
Like, is it speed (I always thought speed was gu/s) or you on about alphas in reference to the development side? (Alpha, beta and live etc)

An alpha is when you hit the spacebar to fire everything at once.

It's short for "alpha strike".

That's pretty much what most people call it.

To counter cloak now i'd suggest a new electrical warfare device, somewhat like a Tesla, but that follows and drains energy instead
once fired, some sort of thunder fires to ALL ships (including friendly and you) in the area, including cloaked ones, for a huge energy cost. This is single shot weapon, not like a lazer, but once it hits a target it makes some particle effects that are very shiny and last for 2-5 seconds, so you know where it has hit, but now the calculations are up to you
Also damages a bit of shields
Not very active on forums but adding this page to fav.
