Had a similar problem with ants in my cat's food... raised the cat bowls on a wire grated something or other that was slicked up enough that the ants had a hard enough time getting up that they didn't even bother.

well, if u know where they are coming in u can try an old home remedy of arsenic mixed with powdered sugar. Most ants are attracked to sugar naturally, and they track the arsenic with it. Might be hard to find arsenic nowadays, dunno. But it works with roaches too. With roaches I remember that you put it near the water pipes and in areas they frequent.
If you find em outside, use andro. Just moved to Texas, and wife had her first brush with fire ants in the backyard. She went nuts with something from Andro, and I ain't seen even a bird since then.....

ever heard of an insecticede called 7 dust? just buy a couple bags and sprinkle it around the perimeter of your house. Worked just fine for me, not a good idea though if you have outside pets.

Follow the ants trail, find the nest, pour boiling water into to kill the queen...
Problem solved.

my idea is a lottle more extreme....
1 word tho.....
shotgun....
no realy it works..
all you have to do is stick the barrel of the shotgun in the hole wait 10 seconds to let the ants go in and wonder WTF? then slowly squeze the trigger.... BOOM problem solved no ants no hole no yard XD

anyone that has had ants in their house won't be replying in some half assed way... they really do suck. if you live in a house try some diatomacious earth... all natural, not toxic to humans or animals (provided they're not eating it or rolling in it) it goes in a perimiter around the house, preferrably around the foundation underneath. it can also be sprinkled across any ant paths that u come across. i'd recommend some more research on the topic about the specifics around your cat, but it works and it's readily available possibly even at walmart in the gardening section. someone else mentioned Sevin dust, also works well but is toxic!! good luck, hope you get your problem solved!

Product called Home Defense by Ortho. It'll kill just about anything from Spiders- lil piss ants. Just spray it along the base boards and windows in the house (also fun to apply liberally directly on the little varmints).
For Fire ants outdoors nothing short of Gasoline will get rid of em....and that kills the grass too.

plastic jar lid, cut a couple slots in it, put peanut butter in it, put it near an entrance. repeat with all your ant entrances. the ants go for the peanut butter but get stuck in it. i forget if youre supposed to bait it with honey in the middle.
also, ants tend to come out of electrical sockets, so if u buy those covers for em and cover all your sockets thatll cut off a few entrances.
