Wow I was just thinking about new ranks today, man what are the odds. Now I have to work harder to get promoted again, when I thought I was done.
Good Idea though Faustus

Fleet Admiral, in my opinion is nifty. because i have this cool rank and no real support under it.
Rank here is just a ego contest, Very few fleets can boast a Active Navy. And only one fleet can say you have to be a Fleet Admiral to be in.
at any rate im very happy to see Faustus award the PB members for there generous contributions to this game.
Grats on the new rank fellas, dont let it go to your heads. ( not that they could get much bigger )
IN case somebody actually improtant reads this, the term Fleet Admiral implys that there is a huge support base under that rank, troops, ships, command, and mainly subordinants.
Fleets undermine the overall support for the whole of the faction, ( but not in all cases, some fleets become the faction). A lot of the fleets out there are just out for themselves. It is a good goal to try to obtain as much as possible, but the faction looses out. there might as well be no faction, just a style of ship that makes you Ugto or ICC or Kluth. When fleets work together in the MV its a great sign, but if there would be a GRAND PUMBA in one fleet. The only contribution to the Faction is the recognition of this persons acheivement of Ego. so why even have a Faction, why not just do away with it all together in the next installment. Yes, i know off the ideal of the non-aligned players. which would be a step forward.
In short new ranks to showcase ego are not what is important, please figure out how to increase the Faction support and not the fleets.
Ty for reading my rambelings
- Char

My biggest concern is that "Vice Chancellor" and "High Chancellor" sound a lot like a legislative rank (ie. of a politician) rather than a "navy-style" rank.
Just remembering back to my heydays, i think "Commissioner" (based on Spritlift's suggestion) and "Lord Protector" (based on Cromwell's title) would be a good top ranks.
By the way, is this the quickest-growing thread in DS history?

Concerning higher ranks being more political or civilian: there are only so many ranks one can attain in the military levels before they top out. Many prominent leaders of the military have used that as a springboard for civilian leadership; i.e. Dwight Eisenhower, John McCain, and Teddy Roosevelt. I'm sure there are many in other countries, but it is getting late, and thinking isn't my strong suit anyway.....
Anywho, perhaps higher ranks will have more civilian duites to attend to in the MV, along with the new ships that are proposed. The supposed vets (I say that with a bit of sarcasm, as those with higher rank are not always the ones with the most experience.....odd, isn't it?) should have more responsibility placed on them to safeguard the faction they are a part of, and those who are High Chancellors or Overlords or Watchdogs or Those Who Wear the Daddy Pants can shepard his faction to victory.

Hrm...Grand Admiral sounds corny to me...
Some alternatives:
Fleet Marshall
Sector Admiral
High Commander
Supreme Commander
Division Admiral
Any others, or one here that you like?

Not democracy patch... Faustus just said whoever has the most Influence is the faction Emporer... or whatever it would be called for that faction.
Supreme Admiral for UGTO, High Commander for ICC and Imperator (or alien word) or something like that for K'luth is what I think it should be like.

Read the first post. No one has to obey orders, but if they do, they, and the order issuer, gain pres. Good reason for lower people to cooperate and higher people to assign useful objectives, and not send people in on suicide missions. I think it would work out fine.
