These ships are fantastic, there can be no doubt about that.

Still, they look too round for ICC. As I understand it, the command carrier/MD, the guppy (old carrier cruiser), and the escort destroyer were all old style hulls based off of (or old ships used by) UGTO's fleet.

The newer, boxy ships (such as the AD and CD) are new ships built exclusively by ICC shipwrights.

I'd love to fly these ships but, there's a certain charm in that old school boxy cadillac we have now .

Thanks for the comments.

I was trying to bridge the gap between the M300 and M400, hence the mix of boxes and curves.

I didn't want to create a Lego spaceship... (trust me, it's very easy to make something look Lego-ish if you don't get it right ) .... so I added some curves in, and some diagonal/angled facets.

This may or may not flow with the ICC theme for everyone, I really dunno. But this is just my take on a design evolution. Take from ICC, and give it a few of my touches. Of course, again I can't expect everyone to agree with me that's a given.

What I've noticed so far is that there is a general design philosophy or feature of each faction.

UGTO - Aerodynamic, smooth, sleek shapes (most of them anyway). They look almost atmospheric capable... like futuristic aircraft.

ICC - Blocky, industrial, and almost all of them have some kind of outrigger pontoon of some kind. But they are still sleek in a way, look at the cruiser...

Kluth - No real shape definition. Some are sleek, others are just weird. But many of them have spines and spikes of sorts, and that's where I take my cue from.

EDIT:

BTW, SpaceAdmiral did suggest trying to design an ICC ship without the signature outrigger pontoon/pod.... What do you guys think?

Anyway, I'm scrapping the Constellation dread in favor of an Assault type dread I'm working on. Should be ready in a week or two.

Sneak peeks of a Dread WIP.

Does this look ICC to any of you? Or pirate?

Looks like something that belongs in star wars honestly..

Too flat, too blocky, weird pylon antennae things sticking out from the sides.

Think the dread you're texturing on the first page is a better choice. Go with that design, and alter it a bit to get your AD

Attach some loopdy-loops (for lack of a better word. You know how a section always makes a complete circle on parts of ICC ships? Usually near the engines) to it, and it'll be closer.

And I agree with Veronw, it's too wide. All the ICC ships we have now have a fairly thin forward profile. I guess it's mostly cuz we sailed ships before stars, and that mental image of how a ship should look stuck.

On the Archangel Class Dread, wouldn't having your center of thrust above your center of mass cause a pitching movement every time you accelerate?

a few points:
-LoA put it well, ICC is not the stereotypical boxy, industrial ship, ICC ships have subtle curves. See the difference at LoA's thread, unknown faction ships were made which were really boxy and industrial.

-I suggested a pontoon-less UGTO ship, but it would be interesting to see a pontoon-less ICC ship, I wanna see them both Unfortunatly, while the UGTO dread looks fine pontoonless, just outright taking off the pontoons from the current UGTO dessie and cruiser will make both look extremely dull.

-It appears DarkSpace took inspiration for its ships from Babylon 5, and now that it is mentioned i see many ships that vaguely looking like a B5 ship. Kluth seem to drawn inspiration from shadow, with their dreads some vorlon inspiration. The UGTO dessie looks kinda like a simplified whitestar. ICC ships take a lot of inspiration from human ships, such as the the Hyperion class heavy cruiser . Maybe you could draw a little bit of inspiration from B5 ships if you want something close to what the game designers made, or just use it as a reference as to see what qualities each DarkSpace faction inherited.

@ Veron & Reznor

Starwars eh? Heh. Never thought of that actually. Most of my recent designs have had some kinda Jap/anime influences.

The "antenna" things were originally long gun barrels. But then, that would mean that the railguns would not have arcs. So I'll just call them weapon emplacements. Removal is possible, but the ship might look plain.

Loopy-loops... as in fins? And arcs? Probably. Let me try to texture this ship up and see how it looks like

@ Sops
Realistically, it probably would.
But then again, realistically, spacecraft do not need to keep running their engines to maintain velocity, etc etc.

A few games do follow Newtonian physics, eg Elite. But since DS doesn't, let's give it a bit of latitude in favor of aesthetics.

@ SpaceAdmiral
Yes. That's what I noticed. ICC ships do have curves too.

Anyway guys, I'll texture this thing through and let's see how it comes out.
Like I said, it could be the first pirate dread for all we know.

the most recent ship (the untextured one) would make a great fighter plane...lol

Spaceadmiral found the word that works best: pontoons. ICC ships have pontoon things that are all attached by circular braces.

I like the Constellation ship. Nice and smooth looking ship.

Great job.
